10 Years of CIFA USA! and what's next...

In our previous issue of the newsletter, we highlighted the acquisition of CIFA USA by Zoomlion, but we failed to mention a couple of other notable pieces of news. First of all, we wanted to recognize CIFA USA's 10 year anniversary, starting in Cudahy, Wisconsin and ending up Yorkville, WI, where they are now.
Secondly, we're very interested in their decision to use a dual-brand strategy in the US. It seems the strategy is to use the different brands to service different target markets. Leveling Zoomlion against the other Asian Manufacturers, while CIFA USA continues to compete against the European manufacturers. CIFA USA will be providing a great deal of support to the Zoomlion efforts as the enter the market, and will be developing and implementing the Zoomlion strategy in the US.

Concrete Pumper is Sprint Boat Racing Rookie of the Year!

In October of 2007, we featured a story about Paul Gahr, Jr. a Brundage-Bone pump operator who had taken up the sport of speed boat racing. Recently, he wrote to us to provide is with an update of his career. Below are his words. Congrats, Paul!
When I first bought the boat in 2007, there were only two races left of that season so my whole 2008 season was considered my rookie year.
Started off the season with an invite only exhibition show at Boatnik in Grants Pass Oregon on the Rogue River in May. There was about 30,000 people there to watch us in that show and parade. The first sanctioned race in June started out in Marsing Idaho where I came in 3rd place in the A-400 class. We then went to St John, Washington and then Albany, Oregon for Oregons first ever sprint boat track. Huge success. Throughout the season I did very well as a rookie even though I had motor problems most races. I ended the season 4th overall points in A-400 class behind veteran drivers. Also claimed 2008 Rookie of the Year out of nine rookies. Big accomplishment for me! At the USSBA National Meeting in Pendleton Oregon in October, I received my Rookie of the Year trophy and had to give a speech in front of everyone which was harder for me to do than driving my sprint boat at 80 mph!
This year very exciting things are happening to the sport of jet sprint boat racing. We are starting to get recognized and are picking up national sponsors. Some of the boats were featured at the Monster Truck show and the Tacoma Boat show. Sponsors like Lucas Oil, K & N Filters, Bell, Jesel and others are now on board and very excited. We hope to receive a lot of television coverage this season. We have just been invited to Firebird International Raceway down in Arizona to do an exhibition show/shine on April 24- April 26, 2009 from the ULHRA (Unlimited Light Hydroplane Racing Association).
As for me, this year I teamed up with my brother-in-law to form TNT Racing. TNT Race Team is a three boat team with all drivers being from the Olympic Peninsula here in Washington. Boat #02 "Live Wire" is driven by me, Paul Gahr Jr, and I race in the A-400 class. Boat #99 "Jeepers Creepers" driven by Tim Cummings received most improved driver and third place overall in his second year of driving. Tim also place 2nd at Nationals in September 2008. He drives in the Super Modified Class. Boat #66 "MIP" driven by then 16-year old Dillon Brown who is the youngest driver in the USA. Dillon receives a lot of media attention at the races and in his first year, he was interviewed numerous times by local television and radio.
You can learn more about Paul's team here, and about the United States Sprint Boat Association here.
